About Us

Coastal Kiddos was created to reconnect children with the outdoors. In today's electronic age, many kids are growing up without any introduction to the natural world. Coastal Kiddos aims to change that by teaching children about the outdoors through games, activities, and lessons.

About the Teacher

Hi I’m Brooks. I am an outdoor educator from La Jolla with over 10 years of experience working with children.  I grew up with mentors and teachers that helped guide me throughout my life and, as I got older, I wanted to return the favor and be that guiding light for future generations. I found that I loved working with kids when I began babysitting and tutoring in high school, and that passion only grew as I transitioned into outdoor education during my time at the University of California, Santa Cruz where I gained specialized experience . The COVID-19 outbreak has left many children stuck indoors with their summer camps and sports leagues cancelled for the foreseeable future, and it has left their parents searching for ways to get them out of the house. With this camp I hope to provide a solution to both of those problems and to bring curiosity and joy to children who are facing the obstacles of being a student stuck inside during this time of disconnect. By encouraging a bond between us and the natural world, we create a meaningful relationship to last a lifetime.

Our Program

Coastal Kiddos is an after school outdoor education and recreation program. We use games, activities, and lessons to teach children about the natural world. Our camp rotates locations and activities each meeting, so every session is something new.

From the beaches to the chaparall and everything in between, Coastal Kiddos covers all the different ecosystems in the San Diego area. We will teach your children how to be more aware of the world around them and how to find joy in nature. Of course, whenever you are in nature safety is the most important priority. We will teach them things to stray away from, how to be conscious of their surroundings, and what to do if they find themselves in a sticky situation.

We aim to convey these lessons through games and activities, such as learning bird language, exploring tide pools, identifying plants and animals, and playing and exploring in nature.

Our Mission

Our mission is to connect kids in North County San Diego to the natural world around them. We hope that, by creating a connection with nature at a young age, we will help to create life-long outdoorsman and women. We believe that this relationship with nature is an important one for our health and the health of our planet, and we want to help pass this love and appreciation of the outdoors on to the next generation.
